Index folder: Click thumbnail -> jump to another folder?

01 Aug 2010, 05:51

Can you configure imagevuex so that when you click a thumbnail in a folder, you jump to another folder?

The idea is to have a folder acting as an Index, showing only thumbnails. When you click an Index thumbnail, you jump to another folder or album.

I've done a search but came out empty.

There is a workaround method to achieve this, although its not the most elegant -

1. Create your "index" folder with images that represent the folders you want to target from the thumbnails.

2. Go to Admin -> settings -> settings.attributes.image ... Add the "link" option.

3. Go to Admin -> settings -> thumbnails.thumbnail.click ... Set this option to LINK.

4. Now, you can go to the admin, and all images will have an extra input field for all images called "link". Here you can add the link for where you want the gallery to go after the thumbnails are clicked ... For example, you could set a link #/content/folder/. You only need to add this link to items where you want the thumbnail to link to another folder of course ... Items you dont add the link to, will act normally and open as images.

Thank you very much for the quick reply.

I have tried hard making this behave in my setup, but i get a lot of unexpected or unwanted "side-effects".

I guess your advice is most elegant when having a flash-only setup, right?

My setup defaults to html like this:
settings -> defaultPage:html
settings -> enableHTML:true

With my setup, the thumbnails.thumbnail.click = LINK doesn't work.
This is all a bit confusing for me at the moment, but it seems like having html enabled creates problems trying to have this Index functionality.

Sorry I ma have misunderstood ... You are speaking of the HTML version? Yes, my method described above is for the Flash version, which has much more options and parameters than the HTML version, which was meant as a simple fallback version.

For the HTML gallery, folders are already laid out alongside thumbnails. In the next release, we will add preview-images to the folder-graphics in the HTML version also ...

Yes, i meant HTML. Sorry for not specifying that.

A selectable preview image for each folder graphics in the HTML version would be a very nice and useful feature.

And possibly even more useful:
In the Flash version, when using the mainmenu, clicking on a top-folder (which contains sub-folders), apart from expanding the mainmenu, it should also display all the sub-folders in the viewing stage, with folders represented by selectable thumbnail graphics.

This way you can click a top-folder and have all its content displayed to the right in one go. Much more intuitive and faster. Your eyes will spot interesting sub-folders from looking at graphics rather than text. I know you already have the hover-and-pop-up feature in the mainmenu, but it is not intuitive: it only shows 1 sub-folder at a time and it is also slower.

Let me know if it doesn't make sense. I would find that feature immensely useable.

I havent' seen this mentioned in a long time and I guess it is not implemented yet. I am using v2.6 and cannot seem to find the feature.

Is it still something you plan to do and how far are you from implementing it?

We are in fact hoping to release a new HTML version altogether within a few months, either X2.7 or X2.8. I am not 100% certain we will have folder images at all, but if we do, I am pretty sure we will display the preview-image.
