Hi, thanks to directing me to the right direction. In effect now the thest gallery v2 is working on my site.

I report here the steps I took to solve the problem, with your help of course:

The main problem explained in my first post (gallery working on IE6 and Safari, not working on Firefox 3 stoping at the wheel), was solved running a Clear Cache form the admin panel. For some reason upgrading the gallery to the Noveber beta left something "dirty" in it.

The other problem was really a permission issue, not the real file permission but a security rule I set on my site, it's the Hotlink Protection. I disabled it and now thumb and pics are displaying fine.

Maybe the flash portion of the gallery access images in a different way than the v1.8 version?

I really need to protect hotlinking to my images and before with version 1.8 was working fine (at least my gallery, I read another post saying it's not working on v1 and v2, maybe depends on the hosting server), now something changed and for sure to be able to protect our pictures is a must for everyone using your wonderful gallery.

I already set the direct access to image files but this is another security issue. I can't deny to download my pictures if they open directly on a black page after submitting the direct address.

Any idea?
Thanks

I am not 100% sure how hotlink protection works, but there was no known changes in the latest release that changes the path to the image. It just uses a relative path. Also, why would it work in IE and not firefox? This may have something to do with the new Flash player 10, that's all I can think of. Just like trying to access the images directly in firefox didn't work, the same applies for imagevue.

In fact, in the next release, it may be loading files from absolute http:// paths as to automate the globalpath/location setting. I can't understand why hotlink protection should have issues with that ... If that is the case, they are poorly designed. It still loads the images from the same domain.

Well, about hotlink protection, I am not a web guru just a low level user.
As far as I know about hotlink protection is that the requests to access a file (i.e. jpg) has to come from the same domain (if you set just it) or from a list of domains you enable.
The protection checks the referer domain name and if it match the one in the list it let access the file.
Seems that imagevue is not sending the referer information when it "GET" the images.
I was forgetting... the hotlink protection rule is set for the file extension you like, usually .jpg and similar, not for all other file (html, php and so on).

Sorry for my bad english, hope I wrote enough to be understood.

As soon as I find some spare time I will check if the hotlink protection was working with the v1.8 and will let you know the result.

Ciao.

I did some research on hotlink protection vs. flash, and it seems to not be a little 'dysfunctional'. For one, there is apparently difference in how it works between browsers (Eg. direct link works in IE but not Firefox, as in your gallery). This behaviour is directly inherited upon the imagevue gallery.

I found many topics about it:

I read about the final release of X2, i checked the "update log" but found anything about fixing the hotlink protection not working.
I would like to know if it is solved because I am not going to upgrade from v1 to x2 with this big issue, in my opinion. (and for any serious web master i think).

Best wishes for holidays

Not sure where you get the impression that this is anything to do with Imagevue, or anything we can fix. Imagevue V1 works exactly like Imagevue X2 in regards to hotlink protection. How servers implement hotlink protection and how the flash player works with it, is beyond our reach.

Hi!

I have the same problem with an IDN-domain.

My new domain is www.lichtfà¤nger.info. It has the same content (same folder on server) as http://www.fospiano.info.

With FF 3.5.2 the gallery hangs while checking your CIA-server  (IP 173.45.242.54) if I use my first domain.
Using IE there is no problem by loading the gallery.

If I use my second domain, that does not contain any umlauts, everything works with both browsers FF and IE, too.

Btw. my flash-version is 10,0,32,18.

Is there any solution for this problem. I want to move my gallery to the new domains soon.

Thank you

Bastian

O_O never knew you can reg domain names like this.

UPDATE:

Interesting to mention that either this domain stopped working or its not opening from everywhere.

If you are interested, >>>here<<< you can find some infos about IDN (=Internationalized Domain Names).

---

Perhaps the link to my page wasn't correct. Would you like to try it again?
Code
http://www.lichtfà¤nger.info
is the same like
Code
http://www.xn--lichtfnger-v5a.info
and the same page via my other domain is reachable under
Code
http://www.fospiano.info
I hope that works better. :?

Thank you from Germany

Bastian

I don ´t think it is specifically because of "CIA" server - There is nothing in the SWF/script that requires a reply from that server for the gallery to work. Even if the server is down, galleries will work ...

I think it is something more complex in regards to the IDN, but I am not immediately sure what that can be ...

OK, seems to be a windows related problem.
