Meta data

11 Feb 2009, 14:55

I did a search, but I couldn't find anything.

I would like to add some meta search descriptions into the index, but I've been having some problems finding where to do that in X2.

Other questions:
How do you get yourself at the top each search?
What is the best way to get yourself seen in a search engine?

Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply -

There is already a description meta tag in the gallery document, as well as the most important TITLE tag. You can edit the "description" meta tag if you want by editing the file imagevue/templates/index.gallery.phtml. Title is set from admin -> config.

Most likely you won't be able to put yourself at top of searches, simply because there are billions of websites out there fighting for all keywords in search phrases. Realistically, you should be able to get high up on search engines for search phrases which are included both in your domain name, and in your title. Another factor is the RANK of your page.

First priority is to make sure your gallery is actually indexed in the search engines. To build your RANK, you should try to get incoming links from related sites. For example, if you are a photographer, getting incoming links from other photography sites, will increase your rank with keywords related to photography.

Unfortunately, by default, an imagevue gallery is not an effective tool to get high in the search rankings. It is mostly community-driven sites heavy on content(articles/blogs/forums/news) that are able to grab the top spots because of their dedication to actual text content.

Meta Name Issue

24 Feb 2009, 02:48

...on topic I believe...

Months ago using X2 I'd updated my meta tags for basic google optimization. Everything worked fine for both 'meta keywords' and 'meta description'.

However I recently updated X2 to the most recent version and redid my meta tags which resulted in a problem. The meta description seems to have defaulted to, "Christopher Grant Fotografi gallery" when looking at google's listing.

The code I'm using:
<meta name="description" content="Professional portfolio of photojournalist and portrait photographer Christopher Grant. Currently based out of Stockholm, Sweden. Professionell portfà¶lj av fotojournalisten och portrà¤ttfotografen Christopher Grant, verksam i Stockholm, Sverige.">

My site: http://www.christophergrant.net

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide!
Christopher

When searching for "christopher grant" at google, I get the following description:
google wrote:Professional portfolio of photojournalist and portrait photographer Christopher Grant. Currently based out of Stockholm, Sweden.
... which correctly seems to come straight from your description meta tag. Isn't this how you want it?

That's interesting, I get something quite different with the exact same search!

Via Google.com
Search: Christopher Grant
Produces: Christopher Grant Fotografi gallery.

The important thing here though is if you saw my code was placed in the correct place and didn't have any errors, then all is good with imagevue ;-)
