The image on my start page is HUGE in size - where do I reduce the margins for this page. I have managed to change the margins for the images within a gallery but can't find where to change the start page (Image with photoblinds effect).
Lastly, how do I link the image to a URL (I would like to link directly to a particular gallery).
Any help much appreciated.

Photoblinds is an additional module. It just displays image "as is" at 100% size, so it has to be just smaller to fit the screen.
Basically a generally good idea is to make images smaller before uploading. They will load faster, create less strain etc.
What of linking, you can add link to menu item thus linking it to an image, but not the other way around I am afraid.
