folder names

07 Jan 2009, 15:31

Whem I am creating a folder in the web frontend, it is not allowed to use more than characters and "_". Otherwise you'll get an error message. So far so good.

But when I am uploading a new folder via ftp, and the folder has an "-" it seems to work without problems. So the question is: Are the restrictions not so strict as in the frontend or do I cause problems in special cases, e.g. some browers (I don't use...)?

Kind regards

Frank

Good question - You can in fact often use many more characters, but this often depends on your server. That's why we keep it strict from the admin, so that we can guarantee that everything WORKS, and then users can use TITLES with ANY characters they like. The main reason we do this is to support localization for any languages, including those from the east.

You should be able to use a lot of additional characters when using FTP, but it is not failproof!

There is a problem when using special chars for filenames, as of now, many file systems are 8bit still, using codepages and that causing troubles.
