Maincontrols Item / Text Event Idea

18 Dec 2008, 17:14

I think it would be a great idea if we could have a button located in the Maincontrols that allows us to toggle between having a text area on or off (and of course have the associated text event.

For example, I really don't want descriptions to be displayed all the time but also don't want visitors to have to hover over the imagebuttons.description to view (which requires a ton of mouse movement). So having a toggle button in the Maincontrols would allow them to turn it on and off!

Thoughts?

sure, that would be technically possible.

Sorry to say I am slightly against your suggestion though - I think your average gallery visitor wants to avoid more bells and whistles. Most visitors will never find the time to try to understand what the button is for - The visitor will most likely just "be happy" with the state that the gallery starts in, and not think more about it. He/she would certainly not be toggling the description on and off frequently ... Then its no better than rolling over the image.

Of course, your options are to create a description that is always on. Another

I think the button could be a benefit for the owner, and perhaps for other users who know what the button is for. Perhaps not for average Joe though. These days, its becoming more and more popular with a 'minimalistic' approach - Look at Apple and the ipod.

Ah, but you haven't met my mother and mother-in-law yet have you! ;)

I have them call you and discuss why this would be good - don't worry, the conversation won't take long, only like 4 hours...

I have the descriptions set to always on now and it's working "ok", just thought the toggle on/off button would be a great option.
