SiteMapping - Google learns to crawl flash (edited)

30 Sep 2008, 11:21

(EDITED Original post)

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/ ... flash.html

I've recently (surprisingly) found an imagevue gallery can be partially mapped beginning @ the home/flash page as long as there is a link to the HTML pages within the main site menu or within a text page -;)

I have an concern regarding the current gallery and site mapping, though.

Currently imagevue's individual image pages, neither the HTML or deep linked flash pages, will show in a map. At least not in my experience so far.

I've used the coffeecup sitemapper and various free online google sitemap generators. All with similar results.

Do you know of some way past this? If a crawler will recognise the home flash page, it should also find the individual deep linked pages as well, given there are links from within the HTML site, or flash HTML pages in some fashion, correct?

Thanks in Advance -:)

With this new tech...

...if there was a way to generate a sitemap which could be placed into an imagevue text page, that could virtually eliminate the need for the HTML site for google indexing, no?

Update: Despite what I've found with the web crawlers, it appears google IS finding the individual pages within the site.

I've set up Google Analytics to monitor traffic (as discussed in a different thread) and over the last day have seen it recognize and captured stats for all the current image URLs and pages within the flash gallery -;)

I believe this has something to do with the SWFAddress module. Supposedly, it is automatically linked up with google analytics for those of you that are running that on your site.
