Hi. I need to build a website as a videographer. I like the speed of photo gallery over Wordpress and wanted to ask. Is it possible to build a video website using photo gallery ? Thanks

Hi. I would have liked to say yes, but X3 is really not optimally suited for video galleries. Although X3 supports video, uploaded videos will display embedded directly in a vertical layout, and can't go into the various grid layouts that are supported by images. This is mainly because X3 can't create thumbnails for videos, so instead it embeds them directly on the page.

Some users have worked around the above by creating their own video preview images, and then linked each image to a video. This will work, but it's not convenient.

Also, you could embed your own videos from Youtube or Vimeo, but I assume you want to self-host the videos.

For a future version, I would definitely like to add much improved video support, but this is not something that will happen in short term. For my other application Files Gallery, I already have better video support, that works with thumbnails and any layout:

I don’t want self hosted videos. Ideally I want to have images and videos as I want the video website to be about videography and drone photography.

Is the support lifetime? Don’t really want to purchase a license and in couple of months seeing the company going out of business

It's not clear what you mean by this. If you intend to display videos on your website, the videos will either need to be self-hosted or hosted on Vimeo or Youtube. In the case you host videos on Vimeo or Youtube, you can then EMBED the videos into your X3 website, but this is a manual process.

Yes, support is lifetime, and I intend to support X3 indefinitely.

It's important to note that this is a Wordpress-template, which is created with emphasis on a page design, especially the front page. Although technically possible to create something like this in X3, it would be a big job to create a layout similar to that index page. Essentially, I would therefore say no. If you really want something like in that link, then why not use exactly that template with Wordpress? I'm struggling to argue in favor of X3 when you are giving links to templates on other platforms.

I don't like the speed of Wordpress, I know the X3 gallery that runs quick. And also the easy of Photo Gallery. Not planning to make exact same as in that template, but just as close as possible. Especially the intro page. Having grid layout. I guess that will be possible ?

Yes X3 will often be faster and easier than Wordpress. X3 is especially useful if you intend to use some kinda gallery functionality of course, as that is X3's primary feature. As for a custom intro page, yes it's definitely possible, as I have done something like this myself on our www.photo.gallery page. A few other X3 users have also done something similar. Some basic experience in HTML and CSS will be required, as you need to setup the grid and most likely you will need some style adjustments via CSS.

Some of these premade templates like the one you are referring to, will often include premade page layouts like the one in your example. In X3, although you can easily create a grid, there is nothing else premade for this purpose.

Essentially, you would set the page "context" to "wide", and then you would create your own grid inside based on the Foundation grid (used by X3).

Yes, but I guess this is where I want to make it clear that you are making the layout from scratch. Ideas for your home page layout should be simple and realistic. It's not reasonable to assume support to build a layout that looks like the premium WP template you posted.

Thanks. I need something simple. Not planning to waste no one's time to make exact as WP. I could purchase that theme if I wanted the exact same style. Quick one, does panoramas works with drone 360 images ?

Thanks a lot. I believe it’s Jpg, never paid too much attention to it. I’ll have to test it first.

I meant what "panorama" format, which is how the panorama source image(s) get stored so they can successfully render visually by the engine that displays them. They probably all use JPG.
