If you apply protection to a parent level folder, does it take on access to all the child folders beneath it. So I make myself a super user to login just once per parent heading /folder. My client galleries and models pages particular I'm looking at.

Yes.

If you apply a login to folder /models/, all folders inside /models/* (for example /models/alisa/), would be protected by the same login.
