MOVING WEBSITE

10 Aug 2020, 11:01

In the next few days I will have to move my Photo Gallery installation from the actual webserver to a new one.

Is it better to:

a) perform a fresh install on the new machine and then add the contents of the old one ?
b) copy the entire folder with its directories to the new location ? (even hidden files ?)

In the first option, what files/folders should I copy to the new installation ?

Thank you,
Marco

Although you could do both, I would personally opt for a).
  1. Install a new minimal X3 in the new location.
  2. Make sure it's working properly, and check ?diagnostics.
  3. Delete dirs /config/ and /content/.
  4. Copy dirs /config/ and /content/ from old location into new location.
  5. Check ?diagnostics, login to panel and click "save" (refreshes cache), check website.

Copying the /config dir, the actual login-password (to access the panel) is inherited or I have have to set a new login-password when I install the minimal X3 ?

Thank you Karl.

When you copy the /config and /content dirs, EVERYTHING will get copied, including your username and password.
