My question: Is it possible to add a "recent uploads" item to the menu that displays the 50 most recent photos in the content folder as a gallery?
Is something like this already available? Or is it being considered?

"Recent photos" has definitely been requested before by many. Unfortunately, it doesn't currently fit into the technical capabilities of X3, which is strictly a folder (page) based gallery system. To extract "recent photos" for display on a single page, we would need to loop through ALL folders in the content dir to "get" images that match a certain "newer than" date. Also, this would not be compatible with page cache, because it would need to continuously check if any new images were added anywhere.
This would be something I would consider for X4, but it can't easily be added into X3.

Yes, we can and will discuss suggestions from users of course.
For now, you would need to maintain your "best of" or "recent" page manually.
