@GGANG Yes, the website startpage is a bit heavy, especially since it is loading lots of images also for the menu at the same time as the full-size images for the slideshow.
Most importantly though, your slideshow images are very big. I checked one, and it was 2MB ...

By comparison, images on our website
mjau-mjau.com with the same size (2048px) are only 2-300kb!

I don't know from what application you are compressing and saving JPGs, but you can have MUCH HIGHER compression without having to upload smaller images. Another few reasons why you can afford much higher compression for large original images (2048 etc):
1. When images are this big, they will normally scale down in the browser, which makes artifacts of high-compression less visible.
2. Many modern devices are retina (double-density pixels), which can afford much higher compression without affecting the quality much.
If you want to review technical details about this,

So because you are a photographer, I assume you normally review JPG compression by comparing compressed images in full size to the original? Basically, you can afford much higher compression for the web, because the original (2048) will always be scaled down, and compression-artifacts are much less visible because of this.
After adding higher compression, I would also recommend using a JPG-cruncher like
imageoptim (mac), which will perform lossless (no loss in visual quality) compression on your JPG images. There are several applications that do this, and we have an active thread here:

May I also ask, where is this website hosted, and what locations do you expect your website-visitors to come from? Since you have a fairly heavy website, it might benefit a lot by adding to cloudflare as specified in this forum topic:

Your photos look amazing, although I did not get a chance to review all.
