The Panel

08 Apr 2015, 06:08

I've tried to install the new beta and I'd like to know if, someday, will be an admin section like the one in V2 that was so much simpler and usable than this one.

I'm not a programmer and, basically, I've found this panes absolutely confusing and too much technical.

I'd like to create a menu with the aspect below but was absolutely unable to do that. Surely is my fault but in the previous version was so simple and clear how to administer your gallery that I'd expect something similar in the new version. I really hope that this kind of administration is just because this is a pre-release but will be fixed in the GM version.

Can someone help me understand better?

First of all, the panel menu is something we are currently working on. Here is a screenshot of the new menu, which supports right-click for editing- or creating new pages:

Apart from the above, and the fact that page-settings are currently complicated, I think it is much easier and faster to create pages in the X3 panel.

1. Just click the folder on the left TREE where you want to add the page.
2. Click the NEW button on the right to create a page inside.

That is in fact exactly the same as in X2 ... You need to click the menu first, and then click the small "new" button. Why is this different in X3 except everything loading faster? The X2 panel is much more complicated than the X3 panel.

In a release coming soon ( see screenshot above), you can even create that structure directly from the tree-menu, using right-click controls. I really don't think it can get any better than that, and I don't see how that is not much easier than with X2 admin.

Ok thanks. I've created that sort of structure but as you can see it's grey and I'm not able to put it in a sort of menu so that it appears and can be accessed. What I'm doing wrong?

Basically the problem is that when I create a new item, this one is grey so it's (I think) invisible and I'm not able to make it visible and associate a menu to it.

This is easy once you understand it: Basically, you just need to add a number in front of the folder name, for example "2001-2005" should be renamed to "4.2002-2005" ... The number-part "4." does not get displayed in the URL, which will still be /2002-2005/. WHY LIKE THIS? Because it allows you to toggle page visibility on/off, and also use the number to set the ORDER of the page.

This is actually documented here, with examples, and you should really check the basic documentation before you get started:

Is there a way to use the menu at top (fixed) and show a menu structured like this one? I've tried with the mega menu but my menu options are too wide to stay in that menu layout.

Thanks!

@andreamarucci: Did you try the topbar layout without using the mega menu? It will by default create an unlimited nested dropdown menu. Just don't use any settings in the menu item for the top level page ...
Code
