Renaming panel folder for security reasons

18 Mar 2025, 08:31

Hi,
is it possible to rename the panel directory for security reasons, for example to

site.com/administration
and everything will work?

Thank you

Yes, you can rename the /panel/ to /anythingyouwant/ ... I would probably avoid calling it "administration", because that dirname is often targeted by bad bots. Better just a secret folder name that only you (or a few) know ...

Thanks for the answer, one more question:

Does the automatic update from the panel work after renaming? For example, when the update also affects the panel directory? Or must be updated manually after the update is released (from the panel directory to the new directory name).

For this to work automatically, the folder must end with "panel", for example "secretword_panel".

If you don't that that, it's not too complicated to just rename "panel" to "somethingelse" manually after updating.

So before updating it is better to rename folder back it to panel and after updating back to the secretword. Thank you :-)
