It seems that protected dirs stoped working
You can see files without password (Chrome, Egde, Firefox even in protecetd mode)
It wants passwd if you refresh page (cttrl-R)

Works fine in our X3 demo. From menu, click Examples > Features > Password.

Are you using Cloudflare? Do you have site preloader enabled?

Do you have a link so I can check please?
