Exif Date

25 Jul 2021, 13:02

I just realised that X3 shows the modifying date instead of the original date (when photo was taken). Also sorting by date ist not correctly working for the same reason. Or maybe something with my pictures is wrong? But the original date is correctly shown in Irfanview, Exiftool as well as Windows Explorer:
Screenshot2021-07-25.png
Screenshot2021-07-25.png (7.77 KiB) Viewed 8662 times
Example (first image is the same as shown in screenshot): https://www.hueser.ch/testordner/  -> each date = 25-07-2021 which is the modifying date

Could you please have a look at this as I mean this was working some time before...

thanks!

Hi! Not sure what processes your images have gone through, but the EXIF data is not consistent. To get the time a photo was taken, X3 looks for EXIF value DateTimeOriginal. You can find this value under "Exif" for an image from our demo:
http://metapicz.com/#landing?imgsrc=htt ... ailand.jpg

For your test images, there is no such value. I can see an EXIF value ModifyDate [2021:05:03 14:47:08] which your Irfanview is clearly using.

I don't see any reason X3 should use the EXIF "ModifyDate", or at least there is no indication that this value represents when the photo was taken. You have other images on your website stored with the EXIF DateTimeOriginal value:

Hi Karl
Thank you so much. I really couldn't find the problem, as exiftool showed the Original Date correctly. Suppose it has been taken from IPTC Data. These new pictures with wrong date had been exported by Excire Foto (Photo Manager), a quite new software. I will have to ask them why exporting produces inconsistent EXIF-Data.

PS: I would very much appreciate if X3 could read/show the location data from IPTC. As for landscape photography this is a quite important information. May I have some hope for this in a future version ?

The most important question would perhaps be why DateTimeOriginal is removed? They can add their own data (like ModifyDate) as DateTimeOriginal should not be changed, but why remove it? It's the definite option to check when a photo was "taken".

What IPTC location data are you referring to? X3 already gets location data from image EXIF, which allows it to render map links. Example:
https://demo.photo.gallery/examples/fea ... fjord.jpeg

Capability to show Google maps location data is only available in X3 "pro".

Hi
I told them the problem with missing DateTimeOrigininal and they will have a look at it. Hope by the next update it will be o.k. As workaround I use EXIFTOOL to restore the original time.
Concerning IPTC location data: I would need City, Province-State and Country. The map only works with GPS-Data but my camera has no GPS. Actually even if it had I would prefer these data as text and not as map. May be I'm a bit old-fashioned...

Right, I mistook the request for GPS when you asked for "location data". Additional IPTC properties could be assigned in X3, but then we need a way to configure what IPTC properties to display (there are literally hundreds). Also, unlike title and description (formatted and ordered), we won't be able to plan/design any formatting for additional properties, because we don't know type/value/length ... They would just need to be stacked vertically, with possibility for custom CSS styling.

I thought there were only 30 ? I would very much appreciate land, city and province, nothing else ;-). But I don't know about the other users...

I understand the formatting problem; for me the solution with CSS styling would be perfect.

I will need to look into it at some point. It would definitely be useful with a few more of the popular tags available. I can't just load "everything" though, and then just display a few. It would have to be some advanced config ...

Yes, EXIF hundreds, but IPTC only 23!

City, Land, Province are IPTC Core Standard 😉

Alright, that might make it a bit easier ...
