Video intro encoding help

28 Oct 2018, 05:19

Its not strictly related to the gallery itself but I was wondering if anyone was trying to make their own video intro. Basically I'm not able to replicate the quality and sharpness of the example clip yellowflowers.mp4 (included  in demo package) using my own clip. Using Adobe Premiere I'm trying to set similar bitrate, resolution and codec for the clip of the similar length and my results are not even on the same level of sharpness. Instead I get awful compression artifacts despite source clip being excellent quality. Below are the specs of the demo clip. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Re: Video intro encoding help

I guess it depends on the video ... Keep in mind, the "yellowflowers.mp4" has a large area of blurred (out-of-focus) background, and that will compress much much better than sharp high-contrast video. Therefore, yellowflowers may have a lower bit rate without affecting the visible quality much. Applying the same bit rate on other videos may create visual artifacts ... It was not a coincidence that we chose this video for the demo.

Other than that, I am not very familiar with video encoding, although I assume it's similar to JPG compression with the additional factor of multiple frames. Likely it depends on the encoding software also. The default optimal-compression codec is usually H.264:

Sorry I can't help more.
