Replacing Images

Hey Karl...

Now that Imagevue performs so well with larger images I would like to replace some of my older/smaller images with larger copies. I would like to keep all of my image descriptions.

I was hoping to simply upload the larger image via the panel (I like the resizing option)  however the panel does not replace the image... it renames the image being uploaded.

Any suggestions on how I can us the panel to upload a larger copy of the same images (keeping descriptions)?

Thanks

I guess there may be room for improvement with an option to allow new uploaded images to overwrite existing images with the same file name. Until then, you have a few options:
  • Before uploading NEW images, delete the old images that will be replaced.
  • After uploading NEW images, delete the old images, and rename the newly uploaded images.
  • Upload images via FTP, as this will allow you to replace on upload.
I would say #3 FTP would be the most effective solution, although that would require resizing images locally prior to upload. #1 is definitely an easier solution than #2 ... If you use method #1, just make sure to upload replacement images immediately after deleting (without clicking "save" in page settings), so that the image titles/descriptions are not deleted.

In all cases, if you are using Cloudflare, you will also need to flush your Cloudflare cache from CF control panel, since CF has cached images on their CDN network.

Thanks Karl... I am about 3/4 of the way through my site... things are working well. I like the idea of adding an overwrite option.
