Not sure where you get the idea that "btn btn-danger" is part of font-awesome ... Those classes are in fact part of BOOTSTRAP. The X3 panel uses bootstrap, so that just why they happen to work in the panel ... Not in the frontend though.

For X3, you can use the the "button" class, as X3 is running on Foundation.
