Email not sending via contact form

19 Feb 2016, 00:17

Hi Karl,

I installed X3 on my other website and I tried using the contact form. Unfortunately it is not working. Once I have filled in all the form field and press the SEND button it stays at sending only and email is not sending at all.

Please see the screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5fju0dl2p7xgc ... 2.png?dl=0

Can you please have a look at it, thanks.

Link to my website is here: http://cheekybooth.com.au/contact/
I will send you a PM to my login details.

I have 2 websites running on the same server and the other one is working perfectly.

Also, whilst we are at the Contact form topic. I am not sure if it has been asked before...

Can I add a form fields like this?

Name: already present
Email: already present
Contact Phone No.:
Date of Event:
Start time of Event:
Number of Hours required:
Location of Event:
Type of Event:
How did you hear about us?: (We'd like to know)

I think it would be nice to add additional field. I received one feedback from a marketing person who happens to be my friend and mentioned that it will be easier if it can be done because anyone who will contact the website owner will just put any information that may be not suitable for what you wanted to know.

Thanks

Not sure if it's file permissions, or something with the server, but the mail script is blocked (forbidden):

Currently no, but we intend to create a flexi-forms plugin for X3 in the near-future, which will allow you build any form. Until then, you need to stick with the limited simple contactform in X3.

If you are desperate, you can embed a form from a "form creator website", see an overview below. We don't generally recommend this, because they don't integrate with your X3 design, and they will have links to the online-form service (unless you pay).

Yes, so why is it working once place and not the other?
http://larryanda.com.au/app/x3.mailer.php WORKS
http://cheekybooth.com.au/app/x3.mailer.php DENIED

Did you ask your host? That would be a logical step. It is not possible X3 code to prevent access to a file, so it's server-related.

Just got back from my hosting and this is their reply:

There must be some code in the .htaccess file present at /home/larryand/public_html/cheekybooth path due to which http://cheekybooth.com.au/app/x3.mailer.php link is showing 403 error, I would recommend you to get in touch with your web developer and ask them to further investigate and fix this issue for you.

I tried uncommenting and changing the RewriteBase /cheekbooth but doesn't do anything.

Well, there ain't, unless someone added it. A simple test can be done by temporarily renaming the ".htaccess" file in root to "ok.htaccess", and then trying to access the file. Of course, both the .htaccess files in those domains are identical (unless someone changed it), so not sure how that could be related ...

We certainly don't add default code in .htaccess to block access to important files.

Also, you could check file permissions for the uploaded file.

I can take a look if you have FTP.

Well your host was right, but you had an OLD version of the X3 .htaccess file. Perhaps you forgot to update this file? It is easy to forget as sometimes it is invisible to the file system.

I renamed the old file to old.htaccess, and copied the correct .htaccess file from your larryanda.com folder. Works now ...

PS! Nice sidebar layout you got there ... I would recommend removing the following body classes from your index page though: menu-absolute-20 and no-pad. They are orphans from the sample-startpage, and if you remove the no-pad, you will get nicer spacing above the top title.
