Can gallery images locations be manually sorted on the fly like X2? I only see sort by: Date, Name & Size.

As answered here a few days ago, manual image-sorting will be available in next major release, likely Feb/March.

Furthermore, it's important to note that the sorting options you are referring to here are only for the panel-listing. Changing the sort order of the panel listing does not affect the sort order in the gallery, which has it's own setting in the page->settings->gallery.
