Renaming Folders

An unwanted side effect of renaming folders is that if images or other assets are referenced in that folder... the links break when a folder is set to 1., 2. or the number removed all together.

You mean links to the image from other websites? Not quite sure what you mean "referenced in that folder" ...

You mean the preview image set in the image: setting for the page? Yes I guess if you are setting this to images in another folder, and then renaming folders afterwards, it could be a problem. Normally, you set the image by simply referring the name of any image within the folder:

No need for any *.jpg or folder name. However, in your case I assume you are trying to set preview image for parent folders that point to child folders that are being renamed? I'm afraid this will simply have to be endured for the sake of flexibility ...
