X3 configuration problems

Do any of you have a decent manual on how to set up this gallery?
I'm having a lot of problems with it, and I've been struggling for days without success....
For example: I have an archive folder on my server with photos. I do not want to duplicate photos, but only to link this photo directory to the gallery....
It does not work in any way....
Any ideas?

There is a basic setup guide here. Otherwise, the panel contains inline help when hovering over the "?" help icons.

You mean you want to display photos from one gallery (your archive) in another page? That would normally be achieved by going to page settings > Gallery, scroll down to "Advanced", and select another folder for "gallery assets". This effectively means the page will load it's images from another folder (for example your assets folder).

Hello, ...

Thank you for your reply, but that is not what I mean, that is:

I have all the photos in the directory : /home/pictures/test and I would like the gallery with X3 to download the photos from this directory instead of the directory, the gallery where X3 is installed, by default in my config which is : /var install dir of X3/ ... /galleries/

All your photos, as in all photos in a single dir? Or do you have multiple dirs in that location? And what do you want to do with all the photos in X3? Hard to say when info is insufficient.

There is one way for X3 (or any app) to show images from a different directory, and that is by creating a symlink. For example in your case, you could make a symlink "/var/www/x3/content/myphotos" (or whatever the path would be) with target "/home/pictures/test". This would then create a virtual directory inside X3's content with all the images from the other dir.

thanks - I have solved this problem, although X3 it is not so intuitive  as it used to be in X2 - the good old days and my lovely app....

And now I have something like this? "1 Image" is displayed on the pic - and there is no way I can delete it?
Any ideas?
and how to change this text: "A bunch of cool photos from my space travels"
??

This is from your page "Folders" settings, where you have assigned "amount" under caption settings. In other words, you have albums captions set to display the amount of images inside each album.

This is from the page itself. Navigate to the page in the panel and check title and/or description of the page.

On a side note, it seems like you have setup X3 with all SAMPLE folders? Or you downloaded the mjau-mjau.com X3? This is useful to see how things are done for all the DIFFERENT examples. However, it's a bad idea to build your own galleries ON TOP of the same folders, since they have purposely been created all differently to showcase different options in X3. In the case above, instead of writing titles and descriptions from scratch, you are having to edit existing pages.

Unfortunately, I cannot change that option, as "gallery" settings is not accessible, and/or empty.
So basically: "1 image" is not shown as a option that can be changed, the same as that text for gallery.
Anyway: Just deleted all the "example" folders, and is not existing anymore...

day by day I start to having the feeling, that I losing my time for that software, which is not fully and complete implemented and designed...
Do not take me wrong please, but is looking like is a lot to be changed before the final version.
But -- let we still play with it, and hopeful with your help finally it will be setup as should be. Cross fingers.

I said page "FOLDERS" settings, not "gallery" settings.

Even if it was "gallery" settings, that's not empty either:

If you have some "empty" gallery settings, I need to see where you are in the panel, as I'm not even sure what that means.

As noted, page settings > folders > inline captions "amount":

There is nothing in this post that indicates that X3 is incomplete, and I don't think you will find any post in this forum from anyone claiming that X3 is incomplete either. X3 may not be for for everyone, but it's definitely not incomplete in regards to visual options.

If X3 doesn't suit you, feel free to request a refund.

I would basically avoid the "demo content", create your own pages/structure from scratch, and avoid most settings (90% you will never need to change or understand). Normally, you can just create a page, add title and description, upload images, and that's it. A good starting point: https://www.photo.gallery/docs/setup/guide/

Let me know if you require further assistance!

You know what mjaumjau? I appreciate your work and commitment, but I am discovering more and more problems.
If you are interested, I can somehow provide you with a link and you can see for yourself what works and what does not. Maybe some remote access?
But,
First, as per your suggestion, I will do a new installation to make sure that everything is done as you suggest....

I don't see what the above has to do with anything previously noted in this post, which I have answered with screenshots.

Feel free to send further support requests. If you want me to diagnose specific problems, please include link and login to your admin panel. I won't do "remote access" as it's too tedious and clumsy. Besides, the only reason for this would be if you have setup a private server that is not accessible from the www.

Thanks for your commitment and input, but it's a waste of time. I will come back to X3 someday, when new, hopefully improved versions appear. So far the gallery has too many problems, it is unclear and the support from your side is also not perfect.... despite the fact that you actually want to offer them. But on the form of support and approach to the customer you should work a little, because it is poor.

Not only “posting pictures” is important.... especially since I can't post them on the forum here (another problem of the service?), and yours present a different picture/problems than my question/issue is....

Let's just say I will be happy to ignore your comments, because anyone reading this post will see that I have done everything I can to answer the questions you have posted. Also, everyone else in this forum knows that my support is top notch. You speak about "improvements" and "problems", yet there are none that you have mentioned that I have not answered. It's just blabber about "problems" and "incomplete". If you are not happy with neither X3 or support, then feel free to stop wasting everyones time.

well, that's right - your talking boils down to echoing my answers.... I offered you to see my gallery from the inside, so that you could see for yourself what I'm talking about - you refused. i'm not saying that i'm not doing something wrong - but only that based on your advice, and many hours of work i can't remove the problem.... Which indicates that there are mistakes or issues.

When did I refuse that? I said I'm not doing TEAMVIEWER to remote help users who have installed X3 on their local servers. I don't need to get into detail about why I don't do that. Send a link, or if you really can't do that, then I can only help here with answers and screenshots based on your questions.

I know it's another waste of time, but I can't let that stand. This is the most ridiculous thing I have read in a very long time. I don't think I have ever experienced someone more commited to (and patient with) providing every support they can than Karl.
