It's not clear what you mean "3/4 columns". If you are going to CROP images to a specific aspect (square 1:1), then you should use the GRID layout. The JUSTIFIED and COLUMN layouts cater to galleries with images in different aspects, but that's pointless if you are going to assign square cropped images.
