Page Refresh

09 Jun 2016, 00:27

Hi Karl

Last night I added a new gallery and when my partner visited the page she saw an old version of the site. I told her to reload the page and she claims it still showed the old version.

How often does imagevuex declare page changes to browsers?
Is there a way I can force this every time I add new content to the website?

Thanks

X3 ALWAYS serves fresh pages ... If you change something from the panel, the page cache is invalidated, and new cache is created. You checked the page yourself? If you see the change, then she will also.

It is unclear to me what you mean "old" version of the site. You said you added a new PAGE ... She did not visit the new page then? Sorry, I don't quite understand ... Also, did you click "REFRESH MENU" (big blue button in panel top bar) after creating the new page?

The ONLY reason anyone would see old results, would be caching processes outside the control of Imgaevue X3. It could be the server using some short-term varnish caching, it could be cloudflare, or it could even be a very special device/browser where the user has set pages to cache (normally, page documents are never cached). This is however very unusual.

If you have a link for me, let me check?

X3 always serves page cached after latest change. It's still not clear to me what you mean "she saw an old version of the site." ... she was not on the new page you added? I don't see how a new page can show an old version.

I have attached the screenprint she send me.

But if you go to www.epicphoto.co.za you will see it looks completely different now and I did click the update menu button.

She is using an iphone.

What can I say? I see a screenshot, and I see the website which shows something else ... also on iPhone. You can try it yourself from iPhone and you will see that X3 always serves fresh pages (as long as you use the panel, and click "refresh menu" when required).

Why your partner sees stale information, I don't know, but this is nothing to do with X3. Maybe mobile network providers in your area do short-term proxy caching of pages (for example on edge)? Either that, or she opened the link before you had clicked "refresh menu". In either case, X3 does not (and cannot) serve old pages (or anything). Try yourself ...

Also, did your partner actually click to REFRESH the page, and not just click a link in the menu? X3 is an AJAX application, so when navigating between pages, it will NOT reload the menu.

Thanks Karl

You might be right about the mobile network provider. Vodacom SA sucks and they will do anything to save a buck. Besides, I trust you way more than them. lol

My partner is a girl so chances are her refresh might as well be something completely different. :P

From the 12 mommies that visited my site after I uploaded the photos of my last shoot there were no complaints.
In fact I received a lot of praise about the good looking site they got their photos from.

Thanks for taking a look.

PS: I still think Imagevuex is worth every sent and the support you provide is the best in the business
