POLL: What features for v0.10 RC (Release Candidate)?

Although there are still loads of features to add, we are trying to achieve RC (Release Candidate) status for next update of X3 (v0.10). In regards to this, I would like to ask all beta users what features are most in demand. We already have our own curated "todo"-list, but we want to hear directly from you at this point ... To have a reasonable launch date, we obviously cannot squeeze in "all" features into next release, so we need to narrow it down somewhat.

X3 has been long time in the making, and it is important for the entire X3 ecosystem that we can aim for a public release date. Although we are aiming for public release, from a technical perspective, it should be a smooth transition between current beta and the next few releases. Our list of improvements- and features to implement is very very long, so X3 will see consistent progress regardless of release definition.

We would like to split requests into two:

1. Panel
Although we will not be able to undertake a full re-creation of panel 2.0 prior to RC, we would like to put in an effort to improve the current panel. Therefore, feel free to request panel features that you feel are important. I can say up front that some panel feature-requests will not be feasible until we get time to work with panel 2.0.

2. X3 Website (frontend)
Feel free to make any requests for features related to the X3 website frontend itself. Keep in mind, we will give priority to bugs or critical issues in front of complimentary features that do not benefit the core functionality.

Please reply in this thread with your ideas! Looking forward to hear from you.

Hello Karl,

I would like to see.
1. In the panel have indicator for preload setting to red or green color by click it on top of the menu panel (before manage menu) or pop-up for the admin after log-in to manage.
I have check it out many times in the hosting cPanel and I got warning I/O Usage very high. If many user X3 in the same share hosting they don't care about it. I have many clients want to use X3. :D The system maybe slow down.

2. For website frontend, I like custom scrollbar wordpress. You will see at the codecanyon.net it's make more pretty like a flash website. It can disappear.

Thanks :D

Just want to let you now that I'm quite pleased at the moment with the current status.

There are only two issues concerning 'gallery: justified', but they are already on your todo-list:
- building up the gallery is slow when there are lots of images
- incorrect scaling of the orphans

For the rest of it: :D :D :D

I am very happy now as it is, just missing folders with password and have more documentation for which we are less skilled in programming

First of all, what you are referring to above is related to server performance, and not really related to this topic. The "profiler" in your snapshot is not something we can or will include in the X3 panel. Your cpanel is a full application which is integrated tightly with your server to access information about server resources. We can't do that from the X3 Panel.

Does not go down? When ANY application is working disk, it will write/read as fast as the servers disks are. Depending on the amount of visitors, and your server resources, X3 can't make that go down. X3 likely has substantial disk I/O once pages and images are created, and this is entirely necessary, but once pages are cached, then its not possible to lower the I/O input rate further. What would it help if you have an I/O profiler anyway in admin anyway? Although we are using Cloudflare (you can use them also, to improve performance), this is the server stats for 1 week for https://mjau-mjau.com, https://demo.photo.gallery and two more X3 client websites:
Image
As you can see, there is only a single spike there, which occurred when a user was updating the website and/or images were being resized. Apart from that, disk I/O usage in X3 is minimal as you can see. Also, CPU usage is very low in X3 once pages are cached and most images are resized.

Link? I'm not a fan of changing native browser UI. It only applies for some browsers and operating systems, sometimes it breaks, and sometimes visitors don't like that their native interface changes.

True. We will take a look into the justified layout before RC.

We will look into password-integration, unless the task seems to big pre RC. Documentation is something we can find time to work on once we have an RC.
Artur wrote:Only two things for me please 8)
Will look into this, if it is something we can include in RC.
Artur wrote:[*] Image Max Resolution settings;[/list]
Didn't we kinda conclude that this is not feasible based on your request? There are no "standards" in images sizes for different devices, unless you are worried that people are stealing your images. Furthermore, we can't allow for example a "1600px" max size, because most servers are incapable of resizing this big. Furthermore, in that thread above, did we not agree that your "1280px macbook retina", which is actually 2560px, should be requesting something around that size? If you show 1366 px images on a 2560px retina screen, you are basically providing images at 50% of the capabilities of the devices.

Ultimately, the popup-viewer and all the other modules, already calculates the "best" size to suit the layout, screen and pixel-ratio of the device. This is so the gallery displays flawless images through all screen sizes. If you want to limit the size (for some reason), then why not upload your images in the first place at 1366? You will never need them bigger than that if you want that to be the limit ...

We do want to add an image-resizer in the uploader however, which solves the issue of users uploading unnecessarily large images.

I really would like to see optional Exif-Infos in Galeries like:
  • Focal length
  • Apperture
  • Speed
  • ISO
and maybe
  • Exposure compensation
  • used Flash
  • A location link (if it´s available) (maybe automatically linked to show up on google maps)
In my opinion it is important to make this an optional thing to show these infos up, as not everybody wants them to show up.

Page Styler is very useful for styling page but how about Page Setting? Like we can see different option for Gallery / Folder / Border / Layout etc. Just like in Styler we can easily copy the code into the settings.

Just a thought

I think I get what you are saying ... You want a real-time viewer when making page layouts. This would be incredibly complicated, nothing that has been done before, and the interface would look like an airplane cockpit. Keep in mind, just the page>gallery>slideshow option has a dozen settings alone ... Multiply with dozens of other recursive settings across all modules, and there are several hundred settings that we would have to include.

We will consider tools for this in the future, and we definitely want to make it easier to build pages from the panel, but such a feature is not feasible for the forthcoming release candidate.

I agree with Martin and additionally I would be very pleased with some kind of password protection like in X2. I thought this request was already done by someone else.

I would - of course - suggest my feature requests ;-):
- sort-by-date ordering mechanism: https://forum.photo.gallery/viewtopic.p ... 190#p35190
- Map: https://forum.photo.gallery/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=8352
- dedicated panorama solution: https://forum.photo.gallery/viewtopic.p ... 407#p35407
- assets:years/2013/*: https://forum.photo.gallery/viewtopic.p ... 788#p36788

my further vote goes to:
- Exif-Infos: https://forum.photo.gallery/viewtopic.p ... =51#p36908 (right above)

I believe you are on Windows and not Mac? On Mac, the scrollbars in the links above are very unattractive compared to the native scrollbars, and I think everyone else on Mac would state the same? If we even consider such a solution, it would only be for windows ...
