Proud to showcase the new sidebar layouts, which gives a new dimension to X3:
sidebar left (default)
sidebar right
sidebar w/ fixed logo
The sidebar layout looks great, I am looking forward to the see the back end of the X3. About the release, I am sure you all work very hard to finish it in the near future but it needs to be done very soon. Don't get me wrong, I would love to stay with imagevue because it's fantastic to work with but there are other great software's now to build a website for photographers. I do not want to use the flash site in the new year...it's really time to leave that behind. So I really hope that we all can use X3 to start the 2015 and promote your great work with our websites!

Fotomoto is not integrated yet, but we would likely integrate Fotomoto yes. We would likely also be interested to integrate other significant services eventually, now that we have a more flexible html version. We will not be creating our own complete e-commerce+shopping-cart solution.

I am not sure you saw it, but I posted explicitly about beta launch date 31 Oct a few days ago in this post:
viewtopic.php?p=35026#p35026

As mentioned in that post, initial admin will be rudimentary and somewhat limited (no wow-factor), but just enough to manage the frontend (with support from me). We are setting priorities and pushing for the launch date now, which you correctly emphasize must come soon. However, apart from setting priorities and pushing for launch, no magic in the world will allow us to finish future quality integration tasks quicker than we possibly can.

After initial release, everything in X3 will continuously evolve nicely, including a huge non-beta release of the admin. We also want to build administration features directly into the frontend, so you can edit directly from the website frontend for convenience. I respect that there are other fine solutions out there, and everyone will just need to compare their options vs their requirements at some point in time.

Update! Font Skin Setting
http://mjau-mjau.com/updates/#05oct14

After creating new layouts- and mega menus, we had to re-think how to apply fonts and maintain flexibility. The main problem with fonts, is that some fonts look good in italic, some fonts look good in the menu only in uppercase, and often you want a different font in header. Therefore, we created a setting to not only apply any combination of Google fonts, but also moderate basic styles across elements without requiring a separate CSS file.

We will be offering pre-made "font skins", but just to show how flexible it is to apply a "font skin", see details and examples below -

/* TECHNICAL DETAILS */

In its simplest form, fonts can be applied to a an X3 website simply by adding the Google font name to the font setting, which is then be loaded, and applied to the document:
font: Lato

Normally, a Google web font will consist of a string that includes variations of the font (you can create these combos at Google fonts):
font: Lato:400,700,400italic,700italic

Perhaps you want to use two different fonts in your website (you can create these combos at Google fonts)?
font: Lato:400,700,400italic,700italic|Oswald:700

The first font defined is the default website font, and then you need to set where you want to apply secondary fonts:
font: Lato:400,700,400italic,700italic|Oswald:700|header:Oswald

You can also apply additional basic moderations to various elements, in this example we are setting all headers to italic+uppercase:
font: Lato:400,700,400italic,700italic|Roboto:700italic|header:Roboto,italic,uppercase

Here is a more complex string, which is in fact used for the default Lato font skin currently being used, which has beautiful italic typography:
Code
font:Lato:400,700,900,400italic,700italic,900italic|logo:italic,900|topbar:bold,uppercase|header:italic|footer:italic|styled:italic,bold|sidebar:uppercase,bold,xsmall
You can moderate the following elements (may be subject to change):
- body
- logo
- menu
- topbar
- sidebar
- header
- subheader
- styled
- footer

... with the following modifiers:
- bold
- normal
- [weight] // 300, 400, 800, 900 etc
- italic
- uppercase
- [color] // FFFFFF, 990000, 676767 etc
- [font] // Roboto etc
- [xxlarge, xlarge, large, small, xsmall, xxsmall] // increment font size

Examples:
- Oxygen+Volkhov
- Gudea+Rancho
- Inconsolata+Special Elite
- Roboto+Bitter
- Lato (default)

If you require more granular font control, you may instead wish to apply font styles directly into the custom CSS file. We will offer a template for moderating fonts in custom CSS, which is more flexible than the font skin setting, but requires some basic css editing knowledge. For simple modifications, it is preferred to use the basic font skin setting. There are also additional reasons why this setting is useful instead of incorporating a separate CSS stylesheet:

# We can apply font combinations in the URL (as in demos above).
# Minor moderations to font skins without having to incorporate (or understand) CSS stylesheets.
# No need to pre-create hundreds of font-skin css files for any desired font combination.
# This setting allows simple integration of any amount of Google web fonts.

Deep linking is built-in from scratch for the benefit of humans and robots, although I will likely need to add a few more options for photo landing pages eventually.

I did have a setting, but then I decided to automate it. Any reason why you specifically want it removed? It remains out of the way, and for touch screens it is kinda necessary. Also for smaller screens when the menu covers most of the screen and mouse-out is not obvious.

Design wise i prefer no [X] button. but you have a point for smaller device.

Hi Mjau,

After years of happiness with X2, i was looking around for other, more modern websites, more intergration with social media and stuff and also the lack of flash nowadays.

I have returned here to see if there is any progress (last time i checked was 1½ year ago). I'm happy to see you guys working hard on a new version!

The only thing i have left to say, keep it up and release soon ;)

oh and this:

Is there a spot in the playground that demonstrates the multi level menus? Given that the beta release is coming up in less than 2 weeks I am starting to think options of organizing my content in X3.

Thanks

I thought multi level menus was covered pretty well already:

See the 3-tier levels in the mega menu under "concepts", and the 2-tier levels in the mega menu under "blog":
http://mjau-mjau.com/

There is also standard unlimited-level functionality in this same menu, but I don't have it demonstrated because truth be told it is better replaced with mega menu functionality if possible, for better usability.

For an unlimited sidebar menu (somewhat similar to X2), check out the sidebar- or slidemenu layouts:
http://mjau-mjau.com/?layout=sidebar
http://mjau-mjau.com/?layout=slidemenu

I did in fact address specifically the menu in your website not long ago, you may have missed it:

alexhenes wrote:Thanks for asking about this! I have a fairly deep menu structure on http://www.merelyafleshwound.com. In the Kayaking section there are 4 levels.... with the 3rd level containing a number of For example.... Kayaking.Colorado Arkanasas River.Clear Creek. The Clear Creek folder contains images. In addition... the Cycling section is 3 levels deep.
I remember reviewing your gallery menu several weeks ago while the new mega menu was being conceived. Prior to creation, I did a lot of studies on deep menu structures and mega menus, and made some thoughts about your menu structure in specific: Basically I would propose that your menu is created from the website owners perspective, in a way that does not offer much benefit to the visitor. The structure is too scattered, and the depth is not consistent ... Any visitor who is viewing your gallery, would not be able to find what they are looking for if they are looking for something specific, and if they are just "browsing", the complex structure does not offer them any benefit than a rather chaotic overview and too many clicks to get where they want.

My suggestion
If you check the new mega menu demo "concepts" menu section, this could perhaps be an option for you. You would still need to re-structure your galleries to a consistent depth level though. However, if I was you, I would even consider breaking down the structure completely and having all galleries in a single or just a few categories ... This would leave you with loooong menus you ask? I would perhaps hide these "lists" from the menu in the first place, and instead display them directly on one- or a few gallery pages, nice and browse-able for the user ... Consider a page like this http://mjau-mjau.com/concepts/albums/list/, which could easily handle a large amount of galleries on the same level, in chronological order, easy to read for the visitor ... OR maybe a grid? http://mjau-mjau.com/concepts/albums/pretty-grid/ ... OR a larger split layout? http://mjau-mjau.com/concepts/albums/split/

As you may have understood, it is not required to add all X3 pages/galleries in X3 into the menu, because you can easily list albums directly in any (or several) albums overview page(s).

looks great Karl... thanks! I somehow missed your previous post. I am definitely going to look into different menu structures. However... given the goals of my site... I do need to be organized around activity by geography ie. rivers and their tributaries, mountain ranges and mountains within, etc. I really like the new options you have and will definitely play with them when X3 is released. thanks for the input... much appreciated.

When I bring up X3 in Chrome on a Nexus 10( andriod 10 inch latest OS rev) the mega menu is cut off. This is repeatable. Here is a screen shot.
