Is there any way to make a folder start out displaying a full size image with the scroll bar on bottom instead of starting with the thumbnails?

You mean just one of your folders, while the others still start in thumbnails mode? or do you mean globally?

You can easily set folders to start in image mode instead of thumbnails mode by going to admin -> settings -> startmode=image
