Help | Problem with uploading large amount of images

Hello and thank you in advance for your help with this issue. I am attempting to set up a imageVue x2 gallery with a massive amount of directories and images. I have attempted uploading the images in a verity of different ways with the same result.
1. I start by uploading the base files with my modified theme. (everything works fine)
2. I upload my image directories via FTP and set all permissions to 777. (the gallery hangs on the loading animation and the admin screen ether goes to a blank page or does not show the folder structure)
I also attempted to upload the folders individually and after a certain number of directories are uploaded it gives me the same problem. If I delete the newest directory the system works again.
Is there some kind of limit on the number of files that can be displayed?
