Thumbnails in a thumb/ folder

21 Nov 2007, 19:50

Hi,

I have not studied yet if that is possible to be implemented easily, so would like to have your feedback: how hard is to be able to set the thumbnails to be created in a folder e.g. called 'thumb' instead of together with the normal pictures?

I would imagine that creating in the folder is not the problem, but reading the thumbnail images since we are limited to 2-level directory organization. Is that right?

Please let me know if there's anything we can do to workaround that...

Regards,
Alexandre

I do not think there is any specific problem related to saving thumbnails into a separate folder called "thumbs". It would of course require somewhat recoding many of the thumbnail-related features in Imagevue -

I am curious though why you want to put thumbnails in a separate folder?

Hi,

The idea is not to mix the images created by the album tool with the original ones. Just a matter of organization.

Which other information besides the one stored in Thumbs.db should be saved in Imagevue?

My idea was that we could have the following organization:

--...
--folder_with_pics/
----picture1.jpg
----...
----picture1000.jpg
----Thumbs.db (to store the necessary information)
----thumbs/
------tn_picture1.png
------...
------tn_picture1000.png

Since some of my folders have around 200 pictures, storing thumbnails separately is a convenient feature.

ok, thats fair enough - We will consider this for the next version we are working on ...

"Thumbs.db" is not related to Imagevue in any way. It is created by windows for caching preview images when viewing from desktop, and can not be used by Imagevue.

I suggest you await our next version, because it will be quite some workload to change the entire interface for where it loads thumbnails, where thumbnails are created, and also excluding "thumbs" folders for the menu.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply and the concern on this.

I will wait for Imagevue V2 since I depend on two enhancements on this to be able to use this on my website. But so far, even though I cannot use it yet, I really like the tool.

Regards,
Alexandre

Sorry this is not currently possible with Imagevue x2. May I ask for what reason you require separate thumb folders?

Apart from the web-interface with imagevueX, other devices are using the same folder-structure to show photo's, but they don't recognize the tn_ as a thumbnail, so they are showing every photo twice ...

Ok ... we will consider this for a new release coming, and integrate it as an option if as long as there are no disadvantages I didn't foresee yet...
