Permissions open the gate

07 Mar 2008, 21:31

I am a new user (in fact, only minutes pass download).

I am concerned about opening up the content folders to 777 permission. What keeps prowlers from writing all over my content? Or altering it?

Thanks in advance (I actually haven't yet changed permissions... I think I'll wait to hear this answer).

I understand your concern - Unfortunately, the only way for imagevue to be able to save descriptions and thumbnails is to set permissions. Sometimes, depending on server, you only need 755 or even another chmod.

Additionally, a remote server script can't simply write files to a 777 folder. Only scripts on your own server are able to do that.

The best way is to perhaps set 777 permissions when creating the thumbnails and when creating descriptions, and then set back to 755(or other default) once the task is completed.
