Uploading problem

23 Mar 2007, 03:25

I have set every folder in content folder as chmod777..

however, whenever i uploaded my images using admin panel, somehow, when i check through my images using ftp method, the permission given to those newly uploaded images is chmod600 thus, when i run the gallery, the image just wont show up.. UNLESS, i manually change the images' permissions to chmod644, then, it can be view nicely..

But why does it has to uploaded by default with permission given as chmod600??

The default permission is set by you of course, hence why its at CHMOD600. What FTP application are you using. It's not that hard to just manually change the permissions through FTP unless your FTP application sucks  I'm using LeechFTP, small in size, but does what it does well. I think it's up to your FTP or your host to determine what the newly uploaded file's permissions are set at. It seems you're using the host-website to change your file permissions which can usually be tedious depending on their efficiency of doing this.

My suggsetion, just use an FTP program that can change the permissions once files are uploaded.

have the same problem

28 May 2007, 11:57

I do experience the same problem. However, when I use my FPT program (Cute-FTP or Dreamweaver ftp) the right permissions are set to the images. When I upload with the admin facility, images are not set to read, are therefor are not shown. It looks like the upload facility in the imagevue admin program causes the permissions to be set wrong for using. I use my ftp program to upload the files and then make thumbnails in the admin program. However, when I have to hand over this job to another person, it is hard to explain why he should do it this way, when it seems much easier to use the admin program completely. regards, shirley

Let me make it clear, you mean that files created by php (when you upload using imagevue admin) cannot be read back unless you chmod them manually? If yes, can i please have ftp l/p and url to your gallery for closer examination.

Maybe good idea would be to first chmod content and content subdirs to something like rw-rw-rw- (666)?

PS: Anyone experiencing that please PM your ftp l/p and i think we could fix that on non very restrictive servers once for all. Although keep in mind that you can overtighten security bolts so nothing could be done on some certain configurations.
