Screen Resolution 800x600

07 Feb 2007, 11:24

Hi everyone.

Here's kind of a wierd question.

The ImageVue Gallery is able to work with resolution of 800 x 600 or higher. That's fine. The problem is that if you add a sitemenu to this, you are obviously confined to this resolution, especially if you have several menu items. Despite changes in sitemenu options (margines etc.) you will quickly find yourself running out of real estate since the site menu only works as a one level linear menu. In addition, the image viewer panel and the sitemenu actually collide when viewing the imagevue gallery at 800x600 .... not to mention the placement of the viewer panel itself which seems to sit too high on the screen.

Is there a work around to this that doesn't involve integrating the imagegallery into HTML?

For the last 2 months I have tracked users screen resolutions for my target site. Initially I would have thought that users visiting my site with 800x600 resolution would have number at about 5%. As it turns out the number is closer to 15%. That's far too many users to turn my back on so I'm trying to find a solution.

Thanks for your time and help,

Thats a fair question - However, I dont have a rewarding answer. :?

All i can do is wrap up a bunch of arguments and suggestions:

1. You could open the gallery in a full-sized popup window, which would improve the sitemenu margin and gallery height in general.

2. In the end of the day, if you use a small font, small margins, and your sitemenu still is wider than 800 px, then the situation is useless anyway. The sitemenu was only meant to be a module to add basic site information.

3. Im sure the percentage of 800x600 surfers are by now pretty used to being slightly rejected by alot of sites. Atleast the gallery still works for them.

4. In a future version, I think the thumbnails- and gallery layout will be even more flexible, but as the amount of users on 800x600 continue to sink, I wont put it in front of functionality and features for users on higher resolutions.

Have a nice day :D
